Spring 2023

Color-blocking and light layering were among the techniques used in Mark Rothko’s work and an important visual component for Spring 2023. “Similar to Rothko, I am always attempting to create a sort of color field for the expression of emotions,” says Silvia Tcherassi, “warmth, audacity and subtleness were words that continued to come to mind throughout my creative process.”

Beyond the Rothko influence, Ed Ruscha’s intrinsic mysteriousness—achieved in his backgrounds through use of color and light—also played a key role in the proposal as did the magical abstractions of Cy Twombly. It comes as no surprise that beyond the aesthetic value of all three artist’s work, their art is also thought-provoking and disruptive in the greatest of ways, adding a deeper layer to their masterpieces.
